5 Vintage Finds Everyone Always Wants Come Fall

Vintage shopping is an excellent way to sustainably and creatively refresh your home to welcome a new season. And now, with fall right around the corner, secondhand dealers are busy stocking up on what they say are repeated customer favorites every autumn. Wondering what sellers will be adding to their spaces over the next few months? Below are five vintage items that experts say remain in constant demand as the leaves turn.
Vintage Serveware
Fall marks the beginning of a busy hosting season. As such, vintage serveware is often in high demand, according to Patina House co-founder Jenna Haefelin. (Shop her wares at The Country Living Fair!) “I think people are increasingly drawn to tables that feel collected rather than perfectly matched, and vintage pieces add that character immediately,” she explains, noting that the warmer coloring of metals like brass and cast iron works particularly well with autumn entertaining.
If you feel like shopping for a more on-the-nose piece of serveware, set your sights on a vintage turkey platter, which Kelly Riley and her customers greatly enjoy. “The platters aren't just useful but also pieces of art to decorate with,” says the founder of Junely. “They are also fun to collect, because there is such a variety.”
Still-Life Paintings
While Susannah Cameron of Chez Pluie Provence makes art sales all year long, she finds that still-life works in particular tend to catch customers’ eyes come autumn. “Paintings of late-summer fruit, gourds, and squash capture the bounty of the harvest, offering a nuanced way to reflect the changing season through original art rather than conventional fall decor,” she says.
Copper Pieces
Copper pieces also fly off of Chez Pluie’s metaphorical shelves each fall. “The burnished surface catches the season’s lower light, while the dents, oxidation, and traces of use make each piece visually distinctive,” Susannah says.
These large pots and bowls offer all kinds of uses all season long. “Beyond the kitchen, they can be used as cachepots or filled with pumpkins and gourds, birch logs, or loose branches cut from the garden,” she adds.
Vintage Teapots
Fall is the perfect time of year to cozy up with a cuppa by the fireplace and pretend you live in a charming English cottage. With that, Melissa McGraw, Hazel Home Co. founder and Country Living Fair vendor, understands why vintage teapots stand out to customers this time of year. “There’s something about fall that makes us want to bring out the pieces that turn everyday routines into little rituals,” she says. “I’m especially drawn to teapots with botanical details, rich colors, or a bit of whimsy.”
Vintage Books
Even if the back-to-school days are long behind you or your children, you can still stock up on some books this autumn. House 15 founder Laurie Jones is all about vintage titles, which she enjoys displaying throughout the home.
“I have been really into vintage gardening, cookbooks, and home decor books lately,” she says, noting that Martha Stewart’s old tomes are a particular favorite. “Fall is the perfect excuse to put down the phone, curl up on the couch and watch your favorite fall movie while you scroll through a good, nostalgic book.”
